Finding Beauty in the Mundane

I have a secret... well it's not really a secret at all.   I don't like fall.  Yep. All you fall lovers just gasped in disbelief.  You love the crisp air, the trip to the cider mill, the breathtaking color display... I get it.  Heard it all before and try as you might, you will likely only get a patient nod from me as you plead your case. I realize it's hard to imagine.  Just like when I tell people I don't like ice cream.  I sound very un-American, eh? (it's sO cold!) Anyway, for all you Pro-autumn advocates.. I give you some moments this fall that I was able to see pure beauty in some last minute hurry-and-grab-your-camera moments.

My heart has always grown two sizes (name that movie!) when I see the students raise the flag at school every morning in the drop off lane. So when I heard it was Marlee's turn, I made sure to grab my camera on the way out the door (ignoring Marlee's eye rolls and remarks).

What beautiful things have you found recently?

Lately...

I have been so busy that I have barely had time to be on here... here are some things that have been going on this fall...

A love Affair....{preview}

I love walking through places rich in history.  Especially if it represents part of MY history.  Holly has always been a second home to me.  Almost every day of the week, I could be found training at my dance studio {On Stage School of Dance} in downtown Holly.  At the time, I had no appreciation for the charm and beauty of this cozy town.  Now, I look on main street with new eyes. Red Devil Pizza is still thriving and well, yum! You may be familiar with the Historic Holly Hotel.   A great place to eat with lots of history and rumored hauntings. I knew that we always performed at a festival honoring Carrie Nation but not really aware that she was a sassy little {6 foot nothin' tall} hatchet & bible wielding woman with a cause.  Read on about her under the link, I think you'll love her too!

Hoping I get the opportunity to stroll down those streets again soon {maybe while the shops are still open?}.  In the meantime, here is a little of what I captured while strolling down memory lane...

Summer Stroll For Epilepsy

video
Please take a minute to watch some of my favorite highlights from years past.  I have an amazing group of people who come support Carter and I every year.  I hope you will walk with us June 9th at the Detroit Zoo!

Gotcha!

I've been doing this "photo thing" long enough to be able to experience a very special perk.  One that I didn't foresee when I started, but has quickly become one of my favorite parts of the job.  I have been able to watch some pretty incredible families grow.  Not just older... but in members too! When I received a note from a friend that her family would be gaining a new member and would I come take pictures, I was incredibly flattered to document the happy occasion. It was a touching moment to witness.  The judge, lawyer and caseworker were quick to acknowledge how wonderful this family is, and I have to agree.  She is one very lucky little girl.  Happy "Gotcha Day" to you!
